RELAY

Black Maria by Richard Wentworth

13 February - 13 March 2013

TS&P was appointed in Oct 2011 to promote RELAY, the first three years of a nine-year arts programme that is set to turn the King’s Cross area into a destination for discovering international contemporary art. Anglo-French curating partnership Michael Pinsky and Stéphanie Delcroix have devised a programme to animate the spaces as they undergo transformation.

The first in the programme was French artist Jacques Rival, who created IFO (Identified Flying Object), a giant cage that is illuminated at night and is sometimes hoisted into the sky on a crane to light up the surroundings.. For the rest of the time, it is at ground level, with a swing at the centre for visitors to sit on.

The next installation, running from 12 February to 12 March, will be Black Maria, by British artist Richard Wentworth and Swiss architecture practice GRUPPE. Black Maria is a structure that will be installed at the entrance to Central St Martin's School of Art and Design and will act as a place of meeting, discussion and performance.
