Nicholas Pope

Nicholas Pope represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in 1980 and was on the rising crest of an art wave when he was hit with a debilitating disease, contracted whilst on a research trip to Africa.

He abandoned work during a ten-year struggle to recover his health, at the end of which, he generated his key post-recovery sculpture installation, The Apostles Speaking in Tongues, which was shown to great accolade by the Tate in its 'Art Now' programme in 1997.

His important retrospective at Roche Court runs until 12 January 2014 and a monograph has recently been published to celebrate his achievements to date

Pope’s work is held in the permanent collection of the Tate and The Stedlijk amongst others.
