New Zealand at the Venice Biennale
TSP has been appointed to promote New Zealand at the Venice Biennale 2009. For this, New Zealand’s second year at the Biennale, two artists have been chosen to represent the country: Francis Upritchard and Judy Millar.
Their work will be shown in two venues near the Rialto Bridge: Judy Millar’s installation – a vast, visceral image that pushes the viewer up against the architecture of the space - will be at Venice’s only circular church, La Maddalena, on the Strada Nova.
Francis Upritchard’s Save Yourself, a series of small figures displayed as tableaux on tables and illuminated with lamps, will be exhibited at the nearby Fondazione Claudio Buziol, Palazzo Mangilli-Valmarana. Her futuristic figures will be reflected in the classical Venetian mirrors of this elegant palace.
